I’m sure we’ve all been there. Coming out of a long-haul flight can be a disaster for any make-up enthusiast complete with dry hair, skin and a musty scent. Here are some awesome tips to prevent feeling like the Sahara Desert and emerge out of the cabin looking fabulous.

Tip #1:  Prep & Moisturize Before the Flight

Moisturize

One way to prevent dry skin and hair is to make sure you drink plenty of water throughout the flight and before. Take a quick shower and be sure to moisturize using a good body butter after to ensure that your skin is prepped before the flight. If you’re keen on using make-up on the flight because there’s someone special waiting on the other side, then be sure to use a primer before you apply your makeup to ensure that it stays a little longer. Remember to apply sunscreen especially if you’re taking the window seat.

Tip #2:  Say Hello to Mineral Make-Up

Mineral Makeup

I reckon the best foundation to apply before a flight is something much lighter than your high coverage foundation. Try mineral make-up to let your skin breathe a little more especially on long-haul flights and the mess after may be a little less catastrophic. Plus, mineral powder make-up is easier to touch up on your flight because it isn’t liquid and you can bring it on board with you. If you have more flaws to cover, carry a balm concealer.

Tip #3 What to carry on the Flight

Makeup Carry on items: Lipstick, blush, pencil Eyeliner

Everyone knows that restrictions on liquids can be a tough cookie to work around. To still carry make-up, look for the dry form of the make-up that you have. For example, I always carry a pencil eyeliner, blotting sheets, a face powder or mineral makeup, a balm concealer, blush, and lipstick with me. These aren’t in liquid form so they’re safe to carry on flights. I know how smelly cabins can be so it’s always good to bring your favourite scent with you. Either get the miniature version of the perfume you wear which should be small enough to pass restrictions or instead explore solid perfumes that can give you the same benefit without customs getting mad at you. Keep your brushes retractable so that it has it’s own cover in your make-up bag.

Tip #4 BECH are your new best friends

Looking Fresh After Flight

Despite our love for all make-up products, to be honest, I think the most essential make-up items to carry on a flight are BECH (blush, eyeliner, concealer and highlighter). Highlighter is essential because it can combat dull complexions after a flight. Using a powder highlighter, sweep an instant glow on your cheekbones, nose-bridge and chin. Blush can instantly wake you up and make you look more alive while eyeliner will save the day if your eye shadow tends to fade on flights. Concealer will cover your imperfections if they start to appear. A quick trip to the bathroom 20 minutes before landing to touch-up with these products will have you looking awake and ready!
